Meet the Team

Geography and Environmental Management:
Daniel Landi (BSc, PGCE, MEd)

The founder and Director of Cambridge Online Learning Support, Daniel Landi,  has been teaching and learning for 15 years in Government and independent schools, both in the UK and Internationally.  In 1989 when he was 16, he realised that the curriculum at his South African school did not support the entrance requirements for the UK University he wanted. So he contacted the British Embassy, arranged to sit “overseas O levels” as they were then called, got his sister’s old class notes and a few “Letts Study” aids and took himself off to study. It was this success that made him realise at a very personal level that traditional schooling is not an essential component of academic success.  He has gone to great lengths to ensure that Cambridge Online Learning Support is a cutting-edge service in effective online teaching and learning available to domestic and international students to support their efforts in preparing for the examination process.

Administrator Director and the Examinations Officer:
Jacqui Brown (BA Hons Psy, PRISA)

Jacqui Brown is the Administrator Director and the Examinations Officer for The Academy, a demanding position which requires both a good grasp of the Cambridge Educational examination system as well as an in-depth knowledge of
the Academy’s financial and HR functions. She is well qualified for this position as she holds a B.A. (Hons) in Psychology and an additional qualification gained from the Public Relations Institute of South Africa (PRISA). Jacqui lives in Hout Bay and is married with two children.

French and Spanish:
Dr Ana Garcia (PhD, DTM)

Dr Ana is a Communications Specialist with a Master’s degree in Education and Languages from her native Bilbao Teaching University (Spain), with qualifications in 4 languages (Spanish, English, Basque and French) and more than 10 years’ experience as a Languages Teacher in Spain (Basque Government) and South Africa (Lycée Français du Cap). Dr Ana has a Doctoral Degree in Metaphysical Sciences (PhD) specializing in Transpersonal Counselling (integration of higher consciousness in the counselling process). She is also a Reiki Master and a Coach U CTP graduated Life and Business Coach.

Garric Freeze (BSc, PGCE)

Garric is the Mathematics tutor and manages the COLLS Mathematics course. His qualifications include a BSc Honours (Mathematics), PGCE (UKZN Pietermaritzburg) and he has been teaching High school Mathematics (NSC, IEB and Cambridge) since 2008. His interests range from crunching numbers and statistics, to music and film collection. His personal approach to teaching stem from Albert Einstein’s philosophy: “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”, hence he considers himself to be on the same deck as my learners and I intend to ensure they stay onboard! As much as he encourages his learners to continuously extend themselves in the subject, he still extends his Math repertoire to this day.

Chemistry and Biology:
Jodi Moore (B.Sc, PGCE)

I am Jodi Moore, educator in Biology and Chemistry. I grew up in Cape Town and then made my move to Stellenbosch to study a BSc majoring in Physiology and Sport Science, followed by a PGCE. Science, sport and teaching were always passions of mine and so I got the perfect combination. While at university my love for all things living and connected grew, which only made me that much more passionate about teaching. In school, and in life in general, I try live by a simple quote (an old favorite) “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. Quite simply, if you don’t want a school with litter, then don’t litter; if you would like a safe space to work, then don’t intrude on others; or even if you want to get into a lane easily in traffic, then let others in before you with enough room to spare. I believe it all starts with a single individual making the change within themselves and affecting the world through all the little ways that usually seem insignificant.

Marcus Kruger (M.Sc)

My name is Markus Kruger, I was born in the 70’s, grew up in Cape Town and graduated from Stellenbosch University with a M.Sc. in Theoretical Physics. As well as teaching all the way from Grade 1 through to first year university in combinations of either mathematics or physics, I spent two years as the head tutor at the African Institute for Mathematical Science. I am passionate about cultivating scientific thinking in my students which will prepare them for any scientific direction they may wish to continue, including physics. My teaching philosophy is comprised of giving my students the tools that they need to solve problems and, perhaps more importantly, to check if those solution are sensible and consistent. This requires a mental shift from trying to memorise known solutions to really understanding the guiding principles, and then systematically applying them to the given problem. This approach applies to problems far outside the realm of physics, creating critical thinkers in our society. This is worth even more than a good mark in the exams.

Middle Years
Angelica Moller (BA, PGCE)

I Graduated from Stellenbosch University with a Bachelor’s degree. I took some time off studying and spent a year tutoring and looking after children and then decided that I wanted a career where I could teach children all day and not just part-time. I went on to Study a PGCE at UNISA and started teaching in 2015 as an assistant teacher. I spent some time in Durban and then landed up back in Cape Town with an amazing opportunity at The Academy Hout Bay. I feel privileged to be able to spend my time teaching Children as well as learning from them every day.

English Language and Literature & Business Studies:
Shannon Levey (BA, MCC, BA Hons. Phil, BA Hons. Lit)

Shannon has been involved in secondary and tertiary education for over a decade, and has a passion for education in its various forms. She has been part of the private school system in Zimbabwe since 2009, teaching Cambridge English Language and Literature, from IGCSE to A Level. She uses the medium of English Language to encourage self confidence and self expression within her students. Her main focus over the years has been students who are said to be on the margins of the mainstream, and she has enjoyed huge successes with lower streamed students, achieving high pass rates in classes that were deemed unable to pass English. Her love of literature and approachable nature combine to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for students.
